Southpaw eight-division titlist and WBO welterweight (147 pounds) and WBC junior middleweight (154 pounds) king Manny Pacquiao is among six international athletes nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of The Year award, along with the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant.
The other nominees are comprised of soccer players Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, respectively, of Argentina and Spain, tennis player Rafael Nadal of Spain, and Abu Dhabi grand prix motor sports racer, Sebastian Vettel, of Germany.
The winner will be unveiled during a televised awards ceremony in Abu Dhabi on Feb. 7.
BoxingScene.com first reported the news.
The 32-year-old Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) will pursue his 14th straight win and his ninth knockout during that run in a Showtime pay per view televised, May 7, defense of his WBO belt against 39-year-old Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Three-division, five-time champion, Shane Mosley, looks the picture of confidence, pointing at the video camera of FanHouse’s Elie Seckbach while wearing the smile of a man who may have just sold the world a bill of goods.
“I’m definitely going to be in shape. You can expect Sugar Shane to be in great shape,” said Mosley, whose record stands at 46-6-1, with 39 knockouts. “You can expect a great fight. Manny Pacquiao is an explosive and very exciting fighter. Just like me. He loves to fight, and I love to fight.”
And then, the 39-year-old Mosley balled his left and right hands into fists and pounded them together in front of his face three times for emphasis.
“When you have two guys like that in there together, it’s like a head-on collision,” said Mosley. “It’s going to be one night to remember.”
An eight-division champion, the 32-year-old Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) will face Mosley in defense of his WBO welterweight (147 pounds) crown in a Top Rank Promotions event on May 7 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas in a Showtime pay per view televised bout.
Although Pacquiao has taken criticism for choosing the aging Mosley, the challenger told FanHouse that the following days’ headlines will read, “Shane Mosley Shocks The World.”
“It’s great. A lot of times, people, they see that I might look vulnerable, and that maybe I look like I’m on my way out,” said Mosley. “They say that I’m not the same fighter, or, whatever they want to think or say. So maybe that’s why they chose me. Maybe that’s part of God’s plan.”
Mosley’s acknowledges that he did not look good in his past two fights, May’s Golden Boy Promotions, lopsided, 12-round unanimous decision loss to six-time champion Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), and, September’s split-decision draw with ex-champion, Sergio Mora (22-1-2, six KOs) that was contested at 154 pounds.
“I didn’t look so well in my last fight. In the fight with Mayweather,” said Mosley. “So now, I’ve got this big fight with Manny, and I’ll look spectacular.”

Eight-division, 10-belt champion, Manny Pacquiao, the holder of the WBO’s welterweight (147 pounds) and WBC’s junior middleweight (154 pounds) titles, has been chosen by CNN as being among its Top 20 Stories That Changed Our World In 2010.
During 2010, Pacquiao sandwiched two victories in the ring over as many different weight classes — one each in March and November — around an upset victory in May that earned him a congressional seat in his native Sarangani Province of the Philippines.
Pacquiao is listed at No. 19 in the rankings, along with the following description:
The fighter of the last decade could be the politician of the next. In his second run at public office in May, Manny Pacquiao beat a heavily favored opponent from a powerful political family by a landslide in congressional elections held in the Philippine province of Sarangani.
A man whose cross-over appeal has transformed him into an international superstar, Pacquiao, on the day after Christmas, was named as Sports Illustrated’s No. 1 boxing story for 2010 in a story authored by the magazine’s columnist, Bryan Armen Graham.

In addition, the 32-year-old Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts), who is coming off of an HBO televised, Nov. 13, unanimous decision over Antonio Margarito for the junior middleweight championship at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, was among 10 of the premiere athletes photographed by Dec. 27 issue in SI.
The victory over Margarito was the second-ever boxing event to be held at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium following Pacquiao’s March 13, unanimous decision victory over Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KOs) before a crowd of 51,000 in the first-ever event to be held at the .2 million venue.

While the immediate focus of WBO and WBA lightweight (135 pounds) king Juan Manuel Marquez is Saturday night’s HBO televised defense against WBA interim champion Michael Katsidis, his long range goal is to earn a third bout with Manny Pacquiao, or to become the first Mexican fighter to win a fourth title in as many weight classes by capturing a junior welterweight (140 pounds) belt.
Marquez (51-5-1, 37 knockouts), who is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, meets Katsidis (27-2, 22 KOs) in the main event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Marquez also has his designs on facing Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), with whom he has battled to a disputed draw and a controversial loss, respectively, in May of 2004, and, March of 2008.
Already the WBO welterweight (147 pounds) king, Pacquiao , who is promoted by Top Rank Promotions, is coming off of a Nov. 13, unanimous decision over ex-titlist Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs) for the vacant junior middleweight (154 pounds) crown, his eighth championship over as many weight divisions, and his 13th straight win with as many knockouts during that stretch.
In this Q&A, Marquez also discussed potential bouts against junior welterweight kings such as southpaw WBC titlist Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs), WBO champ Timothy Bradley (26-0, 11 KOs), WBA counter part Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KOs), and, WBA interim belt-holder Marcos Rene Maidana (29-1, 27 KOs).

Star Coins: Coin 1: When you come to a place where the boxing glove thing breaks through a 4-block high wall with a 2-block high wall right below it, let him go past, then stand behind him so he doubles back. He will break through the 2-block high wall for you. Stomp him or whatever at this point. Go down the stairs to the right and look up; there should be a way up. Walljump up this area until you get to the coin. Coin 2: Right after Coin 1, go out, up and right, then up and left. You should see a door up and to the left. Jump from the top part of the stairs to this door. Go in, and immediately jump up to the coin and then exit to avoid the boxing glove things. To get up there, you must jump to the top of the first set of blocks, then walljump off the third set the get high enough. Coin 3: Continue up and right from Coin 2, then go up and left. Three blocks should be hanging horizontally in midair. Jump on top of them, then jump up again to reveal three more blocks. Get up to the second set, go to the middle block, crouch, and jump while crouching. This will activate a vine. Follow the vine up and enter the door. Wait for the elevator to drop out from under you faster than you fall, then make your way to the right side of the shaft. As the elevator rockets up, keep pushing right until you fall into a recessed area. The coin is all the way over to the right.
Star Coins: Coin 1: At the second boxing glove guy, jump over him and head back the way he came; do not kill him. As he follows you, he will break into the box where the coin is held. You can then easily go grab the coin. Coin 2: Halfway through the level, at the rising and falling platforms, there is an overhang after the falling platforms. Get off the platform below the overhang, and immediately stomp on the shell that slides at you, then grab it with B. Throw the shell off the side of the ground towards the coin, and the coin will activate as if you had hit it. COIN GET! Coin 3: Right after the checkpoint, a boxing glove guy will come down a set of “stairs” after you. Fireball or stomp him. Then jump up onto the set of four blocks above you. Destroy the fourth block ON THE TOP OF THE LEVEL from the break at left. Then hit the last block on the set of four you’re standing on from underneath. This will create a vine that you should now climb. Beware of the boxing glove guy; stay above him. Once you’re on the same platform as the P switch, wait for him to go to your right, then hit the switch. Run left as fast as you can, and wait for him to follow and destroy the blocks. Now you can fireball him or whatever and grab the coin.
