When eight-division king Manny Pacquiao enters the ring opposite 39-year-old three-division, five-time champion, Shane Mosley, in defense of his WBO welterweight (147 pounds) belt on May 7, in a Top Rank Promotions, Showtime pay per view televised clash, the 32-year-old champion won’t be with a man who is past his prime, according to Mosley.

Pacquiao is coming off of November’s unanimous decision over Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 knockouts) that earned him the WBC’s vacant junior middleweight (154 pounds) belt, which he has since vacated, but Mosley stopped Margarito in the ninth round in January of 2009.

Call his critics “Crazy,” Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) believes that he is not too old to end the run by Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) of 13 straight victories that includes eight knockouts during that span.

Other than present WBA junior middleweight king Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) and six-time titlist Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), who decisioned Mosley, respectively, for the WBA welterweight crown in November of 2007, and, in a May of 2010 non-title bout, Mosley’s only troubles have come against taller boxers with good defensive skills.

Mosley was unbeaten before twice losing his WBC welterweight belt to the late, 6-foot tall, Vernon Forrest (41-3, 29 KOs) in January and July of 2002, and, also suffered back-to-back decision losses in March and November of 2004 to the nearly 5-11 southpaw Winky Wright (51-5-1, 25 KOs) when Mosley was dethroned as WBA and WBC junior middleweight champ.

In September, Mosley battled to a junior middleweight draw with 6-foot, ex-champion Sergio Mora (21-2-2, six KOs), a man who has split bouts with Forrest, who floored Mosley for the only time in the latter’s career in their initial fight.

Prior to facing Mora, against whom many observers felt that Mosley looked old, he staggered Mayweather and appeared to be on the verge of a knockout during their battle in May, only to lose a lopsided decision.

Eight-division king Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts), who also holds the WBC junior middleweight (154 pounds), has taken criticism for selecting to defend his WBO welterweight (147 pounds) belt against 39-year-old, three-division, five-time titlist, Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs), in an HBO pay per view televised, Top Rank Promotions bout on May 7.

Pacquiao is coming off of a Nov. 13, unanimous decision rout over ex-titlist Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs).

Margarito marked Pacquiao’s 13th straight win during a run that has included eight knockouts since his last defeat — a March, 2005, unanimous decision loss to Erik Morales, whom Pacquiao has since twice stopped in the third and 10th rounds.

Mosley’s not looked good in his past two fights, May’s Golden Boy Promotions, lopsided, 12-round unanimous decision loss to six-time champion Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), and, September’s split-decision draw with ex-champion, Sergio Mora (21-1-1, six KOs) that was contested at 154 pounds.

Still, Mosley was chosen over 37-year-old WBO and WBA lightweight king Juan Manuel Marquez (51-5-1, 38 KOs) and 27-year-old WBC welterweight belt-holder Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KOs).

In this video, Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz, defends the selection of Mosley.

FanHouse gained exclusive entry in the locker room of WBC welterweight (147 pounds) titlist Andre Berto (27-0, 21 knockouts) moments after he scored a first-round knockout of Freddy Hernandez (29-2, 20 KOs) in an HBO televised defense.

Promoted by Lou DiBella, the 27-year-old Berto has been mentioned by Top Rank CEO Bob Arum as a consideration for WBO welterweight and WBC junior middleweight (154 pounds) king Manny Pacquiao’ (52-3-2, 38 KOs). Berto also wants WBA junior middleweight king Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs).

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Trainer Freddie Roach has accepted the apology of rival Robert Garcia for his part in a video where he appears to encourage the mocking of tremors caused by Roach’s Parkinson’s disease as it features two of Garcia’s fighters, Antonio Margarito and Brandon Rios.

In the video, Margarito moans, “Oh, Freddie Roach,” extends his arms out slightly in front of him, appears to briefly shake his hands, and then tilt his head slightly to the left. Rios also appears to be acting as if he is having difficulty speaking, and also contorts his face.

The incident happened on the eve of Saturday night’s main event featuring Margarito against WBO welterweight and seven-division titlist Manny Pacquiao for the junior middleweight belt, with Rios fighting on the undercard in a lightweight bout opposite Omri Lowther.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Freddie Roach had trouble sleeping on Tuesday night, the day before Wednesday’s press conference for his fighter Manny Pacquiao’s megafight with ex-champion Antonio Margarito.

“I got a lot of calls, and there were a lot of people that said that there was a video out there making fun of me,” said the 50-year-old Roach, who has Parkinson’s disease resulting from his pugilistic past. “Well, I don’t have a computer with me, so my assistant brought it over to me.”

What kept Roach awake was what he saw on the video, and it angered him to the point where the former boxer wanted to put his gloves back on — not for sparring — but for revenge.

In the video above at the 2:05 mark, Margarito moans, “Oh, Freddie Roach,” extends his arms out slightly in front of him, appears to briefly shake his hands and then tilt his head slightly to the left.

The camera then pans onto Margarito’s lightweight training stablemate, Brandon Rios, who also tilts his head slightly, appears to be acting as if he is having difficulty speaking and contorts his face.

“Hey,” says Margarito’s trainer, Robert Garcia, “that’s Freddie Roach right there,” as he points at Rios.

Surrounded by reporters prior to Wednesday’s press conference at Cowboys Stadium, Roach, his tremors in full view despite the fact that he had “doubled-up on my medication,” spoke frankly and intensely about what he saw.

“I had trouble sleeping last night. I wanted to fight these guys. I know I’m too old and I can’t beat them up,” said the four-time Trainer of The Year, adding later in the conversation, “I hate these guys.”

“If they made fun of me, it shows what kind of guys that they are. But I’m not going to bring it up because I don’t want to bother Manny with it,” said Roach. “So, you know, I don’t want Manny to get mad or anything like that or to fight stupid. I can’t do anything about what they did, but if they made fun of me, then, you know what? It’s OK. They’ll pay for it. I’m not worried.”
