As promised, this is the follow-up to my initial review of the Lonsdale sparring glove. I’ve increased my rating to 8.5. The only real set back being the overall quality of the glove and fact that it has started to fray along the edge of the underside opening. I now own the hook and loop version as well and highly recommend both if you are in the market for a new sparring glove.

Other than the elastic strap he had to remove because it was cutting off circulation, these gloves have been an incredible help to my professional debut preparation. I plan to turn pro sometime next year, and the one obstacle I had was not having a pair of gloves like this that are the same weight as sparring gloves. This is a response to the “Rate This Gear” video on the same gloves. He didn’t respond to anyone and I noticed that he doesn’t do much responding on any of his videos so I decided to provide another forum for questions and answers on these and other gloves/gear.

Below are the rating criteria I will start using with all of my reviews. Also want to say that this is strictly my opinion and my opinion only. Some of you may not agree and that is ok but would like to read your comments. Overall this is a nice glove and I would recommend it to anyone in the market for a new set of sparring gloves. I did ding the glove for the thumb and slightly undersized hand compartment but honestly think it will break in just nicely. The appearance is ok but could have seen better. Safety 8 (great wrist support, soft foam and leather, secure thumb) Quality 8 (high quality cut of leather, top notch stitching, leather seam around palm opening) Construction 7 (loose/inconsistent leather, inconsistent foam, thumb is slightly in bad position) Comfort 8 (the thumb and a little undersized hand compartment are the only drawbacks) Value 8 (at discounted price, would be a 9 at $79.99 and a 10 at $69.99) Appearance 7 (Would prefer all one color or black with white palm, loose leather and wavy foam take away) Technology 6 (layered cuff, soft foam, overall though not very innovative) Overall 7.5
