Southpaw WBC middleweight (160 pounds) champion Sergio Martinez has been on a roll, one that has earned him Fighter of the Year honors from FanHouse for 2010.

In an HBO televised bout in April, the 35-year-old Martinez (46-2-2, 25 knockouts) overwhelmed then-WBO and WBC king Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) by unanimous decision, and, last month, knocked cold southpaw three-time champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) in the second round in the sensational first defense of his crown. The win over Williams avenged a disputed, December, 2009 majority decision loss by Martinez during which both fighters were floored in the first round.

Having vanquished seven world champions in four years over the course of the welterweight (147 pounds), junior middleweight (154 pounds) and middleweight divisions, Williams entered his rematch against Martinez ranked third on most pound-for-pound lists behind unbeaten six-time titlist, Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs), and eight-division king, Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), holder of the WBO welterweight and WBC junior middleweight belts.

Williams’ manager and trainer, George Peterson, offered his assessment of Martinez’s victory during a recent Q&A with FanHouse, to which Martinez’s promoter, Lou DiBella, has issued the responses below.
