Eight-division titlist Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts) will defend his WBO welterweight (147 pounds) belt against three-division, five-time champion, Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) on May 7 in an HBO pay per view televised, Top Rank Promotions bout from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas where Pacquiao’s WBC junior middleweight (154 pounds) crown will not be on the line.

The 32-year-old Pacquiao is coming off of a Nov. 13 unanimous decision over Antonio Margarito that earned him the WBC belt, his eighth crown in as many different weight classes, and his 13th straight win.

Pacquiao’s last loss was by a unanimous decision to Erik Morales in March of 2005, but the Filipino super star has since stopped eight opponents, including four consecutively — a spree comprised knockouts over David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto, respectively, in nine, eight, two, and, 12 rounds.

Pacquaio’s winning streak also includes having twice avenged the loss to Morales, whom he stopped in 10, and, three rounds, in January and November 2006. The run also boasts 12-round triumphs over Mexican legends Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Barrera, as well as an eighth-round knockout of previously unbeaten Jorge Solis.

The debate rages on concerning who would win between eight-division king Manny Pacquiao, holder of the WBO welterweight (147 pounds) and junior middleweight (154 pounds) belts, and six-time titlist Floyd Mayweather, who have been promoted, respectively, by rivals Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank Promotions.

Their negotiations for a bout have twice failed to be negotiated, once, even though HBO Sports President, Ross Greenburg, was involved as a mediator.

Featherweight (126 pounds) fighter Charles Huerta (16-1, nine knockouts) would love to see the fight, even as he calls Pacquiao the sport’s best, pound-for-pound.
